It’s safe to say that second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence got off to a slow start after he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Under Lawrence, the Jaguars were 0-9 on the road until Sunday’s win against the Los Angeles Chargers, but apparently, that puts him in pretty good company.

According to a graphic shared by NFL on CBS, legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning got off to a nearly identical start to his NFL career, going 0-9 in his first nine road starts before winning his 10th road game in Week 3 0f his second season. Making the comparison even crazier is the fact that Manning’s Indianapolis Colts also faced and beat the Chargers in that Week 3 matchup.

Obviously, this stat doesn’t mean that Lawrence is going to have the dominant, Hall of Fame career as Manning. However, it does mean that sometimes it takes even the greatest quarterbacks some time to find their footing in the NFL, so it might not be fair to write off a young quarterback after less than two seasons.

Lawrence did put up some Manning-like numbers against the Chargers, too. He went 28-of-39 through the air for 262 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Perhaps he’ll follow in Manning’s footsteps after all.
