At this point last season, Trey Lance was clearly considered the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers and took the majority of the team’s first-team reps. But now, that’s not true, and it does not seem that he’s performing well in the reps that he’s given.

San Francisco 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows of The Athletic painted a pretty brutal picture how Trey Lance has looked during practice, reporting that Lance is just 7-of-14 in 11-on-11 situations and appears to be struggling a lot with his short-range passes.

“Friday’s first attempt, for example, was a quickie toss to tight end Brayden Willis that ended up in the dirt. His second throw was just as off target. He had tailback Jordan Mason running a shallow route across the line of scrimmage and threw it in front of him by four feet,” Barrows wrote for The Athletic.

It’s pretty brutal news for Lance as he tries to earn his role with the team after suffering a season-ending injury last season, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

We’ll have to see if Lance can rebound from his poor start to training camp.
