The Miami Dolphins had a high-octane month of September. Miami put up points like it was nobody’s business through the season’s first three weeks. Helping the cause was quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The former first-round pick had played precisely like many expected him to before he arrived in Miami. For his efforts, the NFL recognized Tua on Thursday, announcing that he was named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Month.

“September (Tua’s version). Congrats @tua on being named AFC Offensive Player of the Month!” the Miami Dolphins announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One look at Tagovailoa’s numbers, and it’s easy to see why he’s the conference’s POTM. He and the Dolphins compiled a 3-0 record with wins over the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and the Denver Broncos. Tagovailoa threw for 1,024 yards, eight touchdowns, and only two interceptions.

Tua has also completed 71.4 percent of his passes. He leads the NFL in passer rating (121.9) and yards/attempt (10.1).

The Dolphins are certainly lucky to have Tua around. After he dealt with a lot of issues over the past few years with his health, Tagovailoa pieced together a prodigious and incredible month of September. Going forward, all eyes will be on him and the Dolphins as they’ve emerged as a serious contender in the AFC this season.

The NFL world had plenty to say about the Tua Tagovailoa announcement.
