Last season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had some horrible luck with concussions, suffering multiple serious head injuries throughout the season that ultimately sidelined him for a crucial portion of the team’s schedule.

The scary head injuries were so prevalent and high profile that many were concerned about the long-term well-being of Tagovailoa, but he claims that medical experts told him he is not at a greater risk of concussions than anyone else, and was at less risk for CTE than players that suffer smaller, repeated blows to the head.

“Tua Tagovailoa said he was told by specialists that he is not at greater risk for future concussions and that he’s not at greater risk for CTE, that it comes more from constant, repeated blows to the head that are more common for LBs, RBs and such,” Miami Dolphins beat writer David Furones of the Florida Sun Sentinal said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Obviously, this is good news for Tagovailoa coming from the medical specialists, but it’s unlikely to fully ease the concerns of the many people who saw him struggle with concussions throughout the 2022 NFL season. People all across the country will undoubtedly still fear for Tagovailoa’s health every time he steps out onto the field.
