During Saturday night’s winner-take-all game against the Houston Texans for the division title and a playoff berth, Colts running back Tyler Goodson dropped a fourth-down pass that would have given the team a first down deep in Texans territory while down six points. It was a gutting play for the Colts, and it was probably more gutting for Goodson individually.
After the game, Goodson opened up about just how bad he felt about the play after the game.
“I was just feeling like a failure,” Goodson said. “I know I’m not a failure, I’m going to just state that. I felt a lot of love from the teammates, everybody telling me to keep my head up. Me just being me, I’m always hard on myself, and I know I could have made that play and that play should have been made. I’ve just got to go back to the drawing board, keep working on my craft, and next year come back even better.”
The pass itself wasn’t exactly perfect, but Goodson still acknowledges that he should have caught it anyway.
“I work too hard to drop the ball like that,” Goodson said. “It touched my hands. Next year, I won’t be in that position ever again.”
Of course, no game ever comes down to just one individual play, but that dropped pass will undoubtedly haunt him at least throughout the offseason until he and the team can try to bounce back next season.
