Tyler Lockett knows a thing or two about receiving. The Seattle Seahawks star is a three-time All-Pro.

That doesn’t mean he can’t learn some new tricks from watching other receivers. Fox Sports asked the veteran recently if he watches any younger receivers to see how they operate.

One of the first names Lockett mentioned: New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Drafted 10th overall in 2022, Wilson had a great rookie season, with 1,103 yards and four touchdowns, despite one of the iffiest QB situations in the league. That performance earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

“Garrett Wilson’s game is real savvy,” Lockett said (via Fox Sports). “I think he’s really elusive — when you watch the way that he gets off the line, you watch the way that he catches the ball. He’s able to catch the ball, make a move, and he’s able to take it to the house at any time.

“Despite all the stuff that may have happened there, he was consistent when given opportunities. He performed at the highest levels. [He] won Offensive Rookie of the Year. He was able to break 1,000 yards. He has a really promising future ahead of him.”

Lockett, 30, said he’s always studying other receivers to find ways to improve his game.

“You can learn from anybody,” Lockett said. “You can see things that they do in their game, and you can try to figure out ways to intertwine into your game. You can watch how they do certain moves, how they set people up at the line, how they become a magician in the way that they run routes. And some of them might not work for you, but you just constantly try to find different releases and stuff that you like and see if you can emulate.”

Oh, the only two receivers Lockett mentioned before Wilson were Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson and Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

Now imagine the Jets bring in a veteran QB, such as Aaron Rodgers. Wilson could take his game to another level.
