Tyreek Hill, who created a stir this summer when he seemingly dissed his former teammate,  Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, said Friday his words were taken out of context.

After he was traded to the Miami Dolphins, the speedy receiver praised his new quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, saying that he is “the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.” The media immediately interpreted those comments as Hill rating Tagovailoa above Mahomes, who Hill played with for five seasons in Kansas City.

Hill finally cleared the air on that issue Friday in an interview with WQAM, a Miami radio station.

“A lot of people took that as I was saying, ‘Oh [Tua’s] better than Patrick Mahomes.’ I never said that,” Hill said, H/T Jesse Pantuosco, Audacy. “We all know Mahomes is playing a different ball game than everybody. The guy’s an alien.”

Hill didn’t have much good to say about his former team after being traded to the Dolphins, even saying at one point that the Chiefs “basically just threw me to the side, like I was trash or something.”

And while Hill wanted to set the record straight on his feelings toward Mahomes, he’s still bullish on Tagovailoa, and for good reason. Hill leads the NFL with 961 receiving yards through eight games, and is on pace to smash the all-time season record of 1,964 set by Calvin Johnson in 2012.

“This dude knows how to throw the ball. It’s very catchable and it’s accurate,” Hill said. “Once I got here, I made a promise to myself to be there every day in OTAs so me and Tua could get our connection [down].”
