Before he begins his new job as the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio has been helping the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for Super Bowl LVII.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Fangio signed a two-week contract with Philadelphia after the Eagles beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. If Philadelphia were to be victorious on Sunday in winning its second Super Bowl in franchise history, the 64-year-old Fangio would earn himself the first ring of his illustrious NFL career.

Fangio’s knowledge of Kansas City’s offense cannot be overstated. The former Denver Broncos head coach has been assisting Philadelphia’s offensive staff in their self-scouting process, per Schefter. He’s also provided insight on an offense he faced multiple times during his stint in the AFC West from 2019-21.

Patrick Mahomes has [consistently] spoken about how difficult it is to go against Vic Fangio,” NFL Network insider James Palmer tweeted. ” Yes, he beat him every time they faced when Fangio was in Denver. But Mahomes’ massive respect for what Vic does is real.”

While a Fangio-coached team has never beaten Patrick Mahomes, the knowledge that he can provide to head coach Nick Sirianni and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon could be invaluable for Sunday’s gameplan. The result of Sunday’s game will obviously be the ultimate deciding factor, but the Eagles are doing all they can — including seeking outside insight — to knock off Mahomes and the Chiefs.
