The Minnesota Vikings have been full of surprises lately, winning five straight games to overcome a hideous 1-4 start.

They pulled another surprise Monday, reportedly signing four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr.

Barr, 31, won’t need an introduction to the team or a tour of U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings’ first-round pick (No. 9 overall) in 2014, Barr spent eight seasons in Minnesota before the two sides parted ways after the 2021 season. Barr signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys for 2022, but was not re-signed after the season.

The Vikings lost linebacker Jordan Hicks to a shin injury Sunday in the win against the New Orleans Saints. He had a procedure done Monday and was still hospitalized.

Barr is still a sought-after player. He visited with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday before news of his signing emerged. The former UCLA star made 10 starts in 14 games for the Cowboys last season, making 58 tackles.

Every move the Vikings make is amplified these days given their surprising new status as playoff contenders. Minnesota fans were generally pleased to have Barr back, and most football fans could appreciate the unexpected reunion.
