With the Kansas City Chiefs leading the Atlanta Falcons by four points early in the second half of Sunday’s game, it seemed very likely that the Chiefs would just punt away the ball on a fourth-and-one near midfield.

But then, all hell broke loose.

For the Chiefs, this was a very good thing. Kansas City snapped the ball to Albert Wilson, who was serving as the up back. As soon as he took the ball, the seas parted and Wilson was off to the races.

The fake punt ended up going 55 yards and extended the Chiefs’ lead.

For most fake punt attempts, it’s great just to get the first down. This fake punt sets the standard, however. The blocking was damn near perfect and Wilson had nothing but space to run. The Falcons definitely seemed to be caught flat-footed.

As a team that struggles to make big plays down the field, Kansas City will take as many of these sort of plays as they can get. Maybe Wilson should take some snaps at quarterback. He has just about as much chance of getting the ball downfield as Alex Smith does.
