News broke last week that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was being charged by the police in Florida for soliciting sex in a massage parlor in the state, an offense which could have serious consequences for the NFL team owner. Kraft recently celebrated his side winning their sixth Super Bowl since he bought the franchise; therefore, it has been a rollercoaster month for the 77-year-old.

What Do We Know So Far?

The police released reports last Friday stating that Kraft visited said massage parlor on two different occasions where he paid for a sexual act. Along with the detailed reports, there is a video of Kraft involved in this encounter inside the parlor.

The Orchids of Asia Day Spa, where the offense is thought to have taken place, has been allegedly involved in sex trafficking; therefore, it’s a case that could get a lot worse once the investigation concludes.

What Are the Likely Penalties Against Kraft?

If Kraft is found guilty and is convicted for his two charges of soliciting, he could face up to one year in jail. Other potential charges include a $5,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.

In terms of his future with the Patriots, the NFL may have to decide what action they must take. The NFL has been under serious pressure to sanction players who break the law in their league, and they will be told they need to follow their own rules for the owners of their 32 teams.

The NFL has released a short statement so far which read: “The NFL is aware of the ongoing law enforcement matter and will continue to monitor developments.”

There is a very strong chance that Kraft will have to give up his ownership of the Patriots if he’s charged with this offense, which will bring the Kraft-Belichick-Brady era down to a crashing end. Although, the prop bets on the outcome of Robert Kraft’s legal troubles suggest otherwise as he is -2000 to still own the team by week one of the 2019 regular season.

The most likely scenario, according to the betting, is that Kraft will be fined and suspended as that is available at -300. He is -500 to be found guilty by a Florida court of law and +300 to get a not-guilty verdict.

When Did Kraft Purchase the Patriots?

Kraft purchased the Patriots in 1994; by doing so, he ensured that the franchise in New England was not relocated elsewhere. The American business hired head coach Bill Belichick in 2000 and since then, they have been able to create one of the most dominating dynasties in the history of the league.

The Patriots owner won his first ring at Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002 when his side beat the St Louis Rams 20-17. His most recent ring came earlier this month when the Patriots once again ruled the roost with a 13-3 success against Los Angeles Rams at Super Bowl LIII.

For now, it is down to the court of law in Florida to decide Kraft’s fate, then the NFL will follow suit on how they choose to punish the Patriots owner.
