The conversation around transgender athletes has been a heated one, especially in conservative circles.

The good news is that, for once, they seem to care about women’s sports. The bad news is that many pundits have latched onto the issue as a wedge that they’ve gone all-in on.

Joe Rogan, who has a lot of loud opinions about science and the human body, recently shared his thoughts on transgender women competing against biological women in sports.

“It’s just what they’ve done to those other girls that are competing against her is just a ****ing crime,” Rogan said in reference to swimmer Lia Thomas. “It’s horrible. Imagine if you’re a biological woman, you are working your *** off. You are fully dedicated to being the best of the best. You’re dotting all your I’s and crossing all your T’s. You are watching your diet. You are watching your recovery. You are ****ing trying. And this person who just decides they’re a woman with testosterone flowing through their body for their entire life — just dominates you. It’s ****ing maddening.

“It’s why we have weight classes. It’s why we should have the difference between females and males competing against each other, which is why this trans athlete thing ****ing blows my mind – how many people go along with this?” Rogan added. “It just blows my mind.”

There are certainly many out there who agree with Rogan, but the situation is certainly much more nuanced and deserving of careful conversation that a lot of people want to have right now.
