The United States Olympic team was hit with some tragic news on Wednesday morning as news broke that three-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion Tori Bowie had passed away.

Bowie’s management team announced in a statement early Wednesday morning that she passed away this week. She was just 32 years old.

“We’re devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away,” a statement from her management team read. “We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends.”

Bowie had an iconic performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning silver in the 100 and bronze in the 200. She was also the anchor on a 4×100 team with Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix and English Gardner, helping lead the team to a gold medal.

Shortly after the news broke, USA Track and Field mourned her passing with a message on social media.

“USATF is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tori Bowie, a three-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion. Her impact on the sport is immeasurable, and she will be greatly missed,” USATF said in a tweet on Wednesday.

The sports world took to social media to mourn her passing.
