Last year, WNBA superstar Brittney Griner spent 10 months in Russian custody on after authorities found a small amount of prescription hashish oil in her luggage and charged her with drug possession. And since her return to the United States, Griner has made it very clear that she intends to fight for others that are falsely imprisoned across the country.

During her first press conference since her return to the United States, Brittney Griner was asked if she had a message to share for Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich, who remain imprisoned in Russia, telling them to “stay strong.”

“I would say to everyone that is wrongly detained right now across the world, stay strong,” Griner said during her press conference. “Keep fighting. Don’t give up. Keep waking up. Find a little routine and stick to that routine as best you can. I know that’s what helped me. Find the little things, whatever it was. Keep pushing . Because we’re not going to stop. We’re not going to stop fighting. We’re not going to stop bringing awareness to everyone that’s left behind right now.”

Obviously, the United States will continue to fight for the release of Whelan and Gershkovich. And it’s clear they have Griner’s support.
