Last month, NBA superstar Dwayne Wade revealed that he and his family moved away from the state of Florida due to the anti-LGBTQ policies of Gov. Ron DeSantis and the rest of the Florida government. And following that decision, Wade has a message to DeSantis and the state of Florida.

During an appearance at the Met Gala on Monday night, Dwayne Wade, who has a transgender daughter, was asked for his message to DeSantis, and he did not hold back.

“I don’t know him. But I do know men lie, women lie, but numbers don’t,” Wade said. “I do know that when our children feel accepted – 43% of our children that feel accepted from their parents, from the world – it lowers the death rate,” Wade said. “I’m gonna step on the side of acceptance. I’m not even going to go on the other side. I’m just focused on acceptance.”

“Let’s make sure our kids have an opportunity to live this life that we all get to live,” Wade said. “It starts with our gun safety laws, obviously – we’ve got a lot of work to do there. And in our schools. Also, too, in our community – which is the trans community.”

Wade is one of the most iconic athletes to come out of Florida in recent years, and it’s clear he wants to utilize that platform for change.
