Stephen A. Smith has made it pretty clear where he stands when it comes to the candidates for U.S. President in 2024.

Smith has previously said that he would not vote for Donald Trump, saying that a second Trump presidency would be “anarchy being run and an anarchist running it.”

He has also previously made it clear he doesn’t think Joe Biden should be reelected, saying “Somebody’s gotta say it, so I’m gonna say it: We need a new president in 2024.”

He clarified his reasons for why he doesn’t want to see Biden take a second term and it revolves around the 82-year-old’s age. He also thinks that the Democratic Party is “stupid” for pushing Biden again instead of looking to a younger candidate like California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“You have any idea how stupid you’re going to look as a party [if you nominate Biden]?” Smith said.”First of all, you look stupid enough because you call yourself progressives. And you’re riding the coattails of a guy that’s going to be 82 years old during election year, begging him to run for reelection.”

“You call yourself progressives and the best you can do is an 82-year-old that’s already in office, an 82-year-old incumbent. I personally believe if it wasn’t for these damn high taxes out here in California, I would be a Gavin Newsom supporter.”

Smith has chastised his fellow ESPN employees for injecting politics into their shows in the past. In this instance, he’s speaking on his personal podcast, but it does create an interesting dilemma for how the network should think about Smith’s opinions.
