Nia Long

Things are not going well for American actress Nia Long. Her fiancé, Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, got suspended for the season on Friday after an “inappropriate and consensual sexual relationship” with a female staffer.

Worse, the Celtics had known for months about Udoka cheating on Long and chose to keep it a secret after Udoka made “unwanted comments” to the female staffer with which he was previously involved. Udoka, knowing it would all blow up eventually, chose to keep Long in the dark.

Long, for her part, posted a cryptic video to Instagram earlier this week.

Knowing that Long’s engagement on the rocks is apparently an aphrodisiac to potential suitors, a list that includes New York Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman. He thinks his colleagues should declare a Nia Long national holiday:

“Sending nothing but love to Nia Long,” wrote Bowman. “We’re not letting a man, who didn’t recognize the luxury her presence was, dim all her beauty and glory. Matter of fact, we need a Nia Long national holiday!”

The tweet is creepy at best and bizarre at worst, but Bowman’s approach was nothing if not original. However, the sports world was quick to mock the Congressman for his pitiful attempt to court Long while she was dealing with domestic unrest:

No word yet on if the Congressman’s overtures were successful.
