Marvel and Netflix are set to unveil yet another superhero series and they’ve found their man to front it. According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming Iron Fist series will star Finn Jones, best known for portraying Loras Tyrell on Game of Thrones.

The casting of Iron Fist’s lead has brought some controversy, with some advocating for an Asian American actor to portray the Kung-Fu master. Instead, Netflix and Marvel went with Jones, who is white, to round out its superhero lineup.

Iron Fist will reportedly not get in the way of Jones’ commitment to Game of Thrones. Last we left him (spoiler alert!), Loras Tyrell was locked away awaiting trial on sodomy charges, and he figures to have a substantial role in season six, which begins in April.

Here is a synopsis of the series released by Marvel last December, upon announcing that Scott Buck (Dexter) was hired on as showrunner:

“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

Iron Fist will be the fourth Marvel-Netflix collaboration, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the forthcoming Luke Cage. Last July, BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH’s Devin Faraci reported that Marvel was having trouble figuring out the direction of the series, struggling with the mysticism inherent in the character, along with a more elaborate form of martial arts that would presumably be necessary for the show. Apparently, that’s all been figured out as producers, writers and now a lead actor have been hired.

In other Marvel/Netflix news, a new trailer was released on Thursday for the second season of Daredevil. After featuring The Punisher in a teaser released 10 days ago, the latest preview highlights Elektra, the ninja assassin who was a former lover of Matt Murdock in college (and referenced in season one). The character is played by Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Season two of Daredevil will be available on Netflix March 18.
