The Walking Dead is coming back for season eight

The Walking Dead season 7

How long can zombies really chase humans for? AMC believes for at least eight seasons right now after renewing The Walking Dead for an eighth season.

The season premiere of The Walking Dead season seven is set for October 23rd. Despite the seventh installment having not begun yet, AMC still decided to renew the hit show for an eighth season.

Entertainment Weekly got a couple more details about the eighth season, including that it will debut in late 2017, just like seventh season, and will start off with the series’ 100th episode.

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more,” AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement. “What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

The announcement was also made Sunday night at the beginning of a two-hour show looking back at the series as a whole: The Walking Dead: The Journey So Far.

Season seven gets underway on Sunday at 9:00 pm and will feature an extended 90-minute Talking Dead after the show.
