The racing world is in central Florida fo the next couple weeks as NASCAR is in Daytona for Speedweeks. That doesn’t mean the only racing is happening at Daytona International Speedway. The World of Outlaws kicked off their season at Volusia Speedway Park and we had local racing at New Smyrna Speedway, just 15 minutes from Daytona.

While no one was hurt, a freak accident took place at New Smyrna that resulted in a barrel hitting a truck in the infield. After a car climbed the wall, the chain reaction got to Jerry Artuso, who crashed and hit a barrel on the backstretch. The barrel then launched in the air and smashed into a truck, just missing somebody who was near that truck.

This is one of those accidents where you have no clue how nobody got hurt but you’re glad that’s what happened. Surely, the owner of the truck wasn’t too happy but hopefully their insurance took care of that. Let’s just hope that person sends their insurance company the link for the video.
