Sandwich incidents have now gone beyond space and politics, and into the realm of NASCAR. During Saturday’s practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Brickyard 400, Tim Fedewa, a spotter for Kevin Harvick’s team, had his credential revoked and had to be replaced atop the famed 153-foot Panasonic Pagoda after race officials got upset over him dropping a sandwich. Here’s the audio of Fedewa radioing for a replacement from NBC:
“Get somebody up here, they took my hard card. A sandwich fell off the roof, and they’re mad. It was my sandwich.” The “Hey, listen, you gotta control your lunch, Rick” line is great. Jeff Gluck has more on the details:

However, NASCAR returned Fedewa’s credentials after the practice session ended:

As Yahoo’s Nick Bromberg notes, it would be difficult to pick a more appropriate team to have a sandwich incident:

Well, hey, dropping a sandwich from 150 feet could bring a whole new level to Jimmy John’s “Freaky Fast Delivery.” But it’s a good thing he didn’t drop a hot dog, or we’d have yet another endless debate over if it did or didn’t count as a sandwich…
