In the Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship, we saw something that never happened before Saturday night. Someone actually completed a front flip to win the championship. Hey, when you’re on the big stage, pulling something that nobody has ever seen will probably help you win the title.

Lee O’Donnell, in a truck named VP Racing Fuels Mad Scientist, landed a front flip to score a 9.355 out of 10 and win the freestyle portion of the Monster Jam World Finals. 9.355 on something that’s never been done before!?!?!? These judges are way more strict than those judging the NBA Slam Dunk Contest that’s for sure.

When you see a monster truck in person, first of all, the tires are bigger than you. And if you have never seen anything like this, you would find it hard to believe that something that big and that heavy could ever do any sort of flip and make it look as easy as an Olympic gymnast.

Somehow, these drivers are able to backflip these huge trucks and even with customizations to make that easier with ease, even though all physical logic would indicate it should be the toughest thing in the world.

I remember watching TV and seeing Tony Hawk land the first ever “900” in skateboarding at the X-Games and how big of an accomplishment that was. That was huge and ushered in a new era of people trying to beat that.

I have no clue how anyone can improve on this in monster trucks. Nobody can possibly do a double front flip and a double backflip had been done by Tom Meents in 2013. So Lee O’Donnell’s front flip may be the last new thing we see in monster trucks. Though I find that hard to believe. Someone will come up with something we have never seen and we will be amazed once again.
