International soccer star Neymar faces a fine for an absurd reason.

The Brazilian superstar was fined over 16 million reais after he breached environmental regulations as his coastal mansion was being worked on. He reportedly committed “dozens” of infractions, centering on creating an artificial lake by the property in Mangaratiba, Brazil, a city outside of Rio de Janeiro.

ESPN wrote on the fine, “Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has been fined more than 16 million reais (€3.06 million, $3.33 million) by Brazilian authorities for breaching local environmental regulations while having work done on his coastal mansion in the city of Mangaratiba outside Rio de Janeiro.”

The report indicated that government officials “issued four fines after Neymar was accused of illegally building an artificial lake at his mansion.

According to the eye-opening report, government officials ruled that Neymar failed to acquire the authorization necessary for the work. “Dozens” of infractions were committed, according to the report.

“Among the infractions was the capture and diversion of river water without authorization, earth movement and suppression of vegetation without authorization,” the article wrote.

Neymar declined to comment on the report, according to ESPN. The report also indicated that he was fined the maximum amount for each infraction committed.

To say the very least, it doesn’t appear to be the best time to be Neymar right now.
