After the United States Women’s National Team was eliminated from the 2023 FIFA World Cup this week, marking the earliest the team has ever been eliminated from the tournament, USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski faces a pretty brutal situation.

While Vlatkno Andonovski is technically still the coach of the USWNT, it’s widely expected that he has coached his last match for the squad and will soon be replaced – but that official announcement has come yet as U.S. Soccer announced that it “will conduct a review” before determining the federation’s “next steps.”

“As we always do after a major tournament, we will conduct a review to identify areas of improvement and determine our next steps,” U.S. Soccer said in a statement Monday. “As we look ahead, we embrace the hard work necessary to become champions again.”

But as Doug McIntyre of Fox Sports points out, things aren’t looking good for Andonovski.

“Though nothing is official yet, that work isn’t expected to include Andonovski. Not after the 46-year-old oversaw the worst finish by the USWNT at a World Cup in the long and decorated history of the program, and not after the team struggled mightily to score goals both in Australia-New Zealand this summer and at the Tokyo Olympics two summers ago,” McIntyre wrote for Fox Sports.

So while he’s not officially been fired yet, it seems like it’s only a matter of time.
