World-renowned competitive eater Joey Chestnut caused quite a stir on the 4th of July.

Inclement weather in New York City nearly stymied Chestnut’s quest for another Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest victory. But the determined Chestnut was adamant that he wanted to keep going.

Needless to say, he had people waiting for him. Then the showman knew the moment and delivered with an epic entrance that ESPN captured.

“This Joey Chestnut intro is ELECTRIC,” the Worldwide Leader’s Twitter account exuberantly posted.

The epic entrance made the rounds on Twitter and the Internet, quickly becoming a viral sensation. So did his response to the contest nearly being called.

Even Nathan’s made note of the epic moment.

Naturally, Chestnut ended up taking home the trophy for the 16th time in his illustrious competitive-eating career.

“Joey Chestnut continued his reign of dominance with his 16th career mustard belt in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest,” the ESPN Stats & Info account tweeted.

Chestnut has made a habit for over a decade of making the 4th of July memorable in his own way. He simply did not take a break from that in 2023. He persisted that he wanted to compete, then he won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, delivered on an epic entrance, and went viral. That’s a heck of a day.
