When Breanna Stewart joined the WNBA’s New York Liberty in a blockbuster offseason free-agent signing, she vowed to “raise the standard” of the league.
In just her second regular season game with the Liberty Sunday, Stewart has already set a new standard. The former league MVP exploded for 45 points in leading New York to a 90-73 win over the Indiana Fever in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup game.
That 45-point outburst is tied for the seventh-highest scoring game in WNBA history. It’s a career-high for Stewart, whose previous personal best had been 38 points in a 2016 game.

Stewart also broke the Liberty single-game scoring record of 40 points, set by Cappie Pondexter in a 2010 game.
And all this in just her second game with the Liberty.
Stewart hit 15-of-21 shots, including 6-of-9 tries from 3-point range. Oh, she grabbed 12 rebounds, too.
WNBA fans paid tribute to the former MVP and two-time WNBA champion.
