Windham Rotunda, frequently known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday at only 36. Shortly after his passing was announced, Rotunda’s family detailed what caused it.

Rotunda had not been seen on WWE television in a long time, with his last WWE match being in January at the Royal Rumble event.

After his passing, Sean Ross Sapp of shared, with permission from his family, what his cause of death was, as well as how it relates to his prolonged absence from WWE television.

“I was given permission to reveal that earlier this year Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt) got COVID that exacerbated a heart issues. There was a lot of positive progress towards a return and his recovery. Unfortunately today he suffered a heart attack and passed away,” Sapp tweeted.

He followed that with, “I encourage those reading to respect the family’s privacy if at all possible, but his loved ones wanted some details clarified.”

The news of Rotunda’s passing led to scores of wrestlers, from WWE and other promotions, paying tribute to him.

Rotunda was a third-generation wrestler, following his grandfather, Robert Windham (Blackjack Mulligan), father Mike Rotunda (IRS) and uncles Barry and Kendall Windham. His brother, Taylor Rotunda (Bo Dallas) was also a former WWE star.

Rotunda leaves four children, two daughters with his first wife and a son and daughter with Joseann Offerman (former WWE announcer, JoJo).
