Wrestling fans have been buzzing all day after WWE made a massive announcement. The company signed free-agent wrestler Jade Cargill to a noteworthy deal that’s made her the talk of the wrestling world on Tuesday.

WWE announced through ESPN that the preeminent pro wrestling company signed the 31-year-old Cargill to a new deal. Cargill previously wrestled for rival promotion All Elite Wrestling.

“BREAKING: Jade Cargill has signed a multi-year contract with WWE, as first reported by ESPN,” WWE announced to significant fanfare on Tuesday morning.

Cargill had last wrestled for AEW on Saturday, September 9, when she lost to Kris Statlander in a TBS Championship Match. Cargill had performed for AEW for three years, debuting in 2020. Her first televised match included current WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, his wife Brandi Rhodes, and Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

While Cargill left AEW with an unblemished record, her run in the company left a lot to be desired. Critics pointed to her lack of usage on television and relatively uninteresting storylines and opponents. Despite being an active wrestler in the company for three years, and also holding a championship for sometime, Cargill left AEW without wrestling Dr. Britt Baker, Saraya, Toni Storm, or any other of the garden variety of names who played “above” where Cargill is now.

Now, though, Jade is in WWE. The company has made significant strides over the last decade in improving the quality and health of women’s wrestling. Signing Jade is a huge move not only for the company in the present, but in the future as well. The rollout they’ve had on social media proves she’s going to be a big deal. And you better believe that WWE knows that, and knows it can be used in a recruiting pitch for future free agents.

The wrestling world couldn’t stop talking about this one on Tuesday.
