The Royal Rumble has never been to the state of Wisconsin. It sounds like the city of Milwaukee wants to change that.
A report emerged this week that the City of Milwaukee is pursuing WWE’s kickoff to the road to WrestleMania. If Milwaukee gets what they want, the Royal Rumble would then emanate from American Family Field, formerly known to Brewers and MLB fans as Miller Park.
WDJT-TV in Milwaukee, or CBS 58, reported the news that the city and WWE are attempting to work towards making it a reality.
“CBS 58 has learned Milwaukee leaders have been in talks with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and are pitching them on hosting a future ‘Royal Rumble’ at the ballpark once it’s been winterized,” CBS 58 wrote. They added that an anonymous source told the network that “City and state representatives met with WWE officials in Philadelphia last weekend during the company’s biggest annual event, ‘WrestleMania.'”
WWE has made a recent hard pivot towards stadium shows for their big events. The Royal Rumble has been among that sweeping change. In 2019, Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona played host to the event. Then in 2020, Houston’s Minute Maid Park took its turn to host the show. Tropicana Field in Tampa hosted the event this year and in 2021, when WWE used the field as its ‘Thunderdome’ during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cold climate in Milwaukee, especially in January, makes this a very intriguing decision to say the least. However, American Family Field at least sports a retractable roof.
We just wonder one thing: Will Bernie Brewer’s slide be involved at all?
