WWE casts a wide net for potential future superstars. Now, WWE is heading to Africa as they announced “The Search for Africa’s Next WWE Superstar” in a press conference in Nigeria.
“The Search for Africa’s Next WWE Superstar” will be a multi-day tryout to be held in February 2023 in Lagos, Nigeria. From November 8 to December 18, citizens from any African country can signup here.
Those who apply will submit a video showing what they can do. Those selected to go further will participate in the February tryout. Those who impress at the tryout will head to Los Angeles on an all-expenses-paid trip and tryout along with other potential wrestlers during WrestleMania weekend. If they impress in LA, they could receive a WWE developmental contract and workout in the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.
“Africa is a focal point of our renewed global recruitment talent strategy,” said James Kimball, WWE Head of Talent Operations and Strategy. “This initiative, in partnership with SuperSport, will launch what we envision becoming a year-round, multi-country effort to identify talent that will resonate with our passionate fanbase.”
This is in conjunction with SuperSport, whose parent company MultiChoice recently announced an expanded TV and streaming deal that encompasses Sub-Saharan Africa.
