Draymond Green

Countless words have been written about the Golden State Warriors and their pursuit of various team and individual records.  Of course, the push for 73 wins and the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls and becoming the greatest single-season team in NBA history is leading that chase.  Then there’s Steph Curry and the Babe Ruthian amount of three pointers that he is making to crush the previous NBA record – his own.

One individual record pursuit that’s going completely under the radar might be even more impressive than what Curry is doing.  At the very least, it’s a record that shows just how valuable this player is to the Warriors’ success as a team.  That player is none other than Draymond Green, who is having the best +/- season since the stat began being tracked over 20 years ago.

Green is on pace to become the first player to net 1000 points while on the court in an NBA season.

Equally as amazing, Green is joined in the Top 10 of best single season +/- totals by two of his teammates – Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.  In fact, Curry is slightly ahead of Green when it comes to positive points per 48 minutes, but Green bests Curry in the total count.  Incredibly, both of them are three points per 48 minutes ahead of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen from the current record-setting 95-96 Bulls season.

Amazingly, the triumvirate of Green-Thompson-Curry have ranked 1-2-3 in individual +/- in each of the last two seasons.  Since the turn of the millennium, those three Warriors are looking at having six of the best nine seasons in +/- in all of the NBA.

Green does a little bit of everything for the Warriors and is second to Russell Westbrook with 13 triple doubles on the season.  While his scoring from night-to-night won’t blow anyone away, his total statline is absurd – Green is averaging 13.9 PPG, 9.6 RPG, and 7.5 APG.  And as the numbers show, he’s the ultimate glue guy on what could be the best team in NBA history.
