Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel thinks the success he had in 2015 at Louisiana Tech could have been repeated had he stayed with the Gators. Uh huh. Sure. And I could be sliding into the DMs of Sophia Lauren, Megan Fox, and Miss America at the same time; theoretically possible, but the likelihood of that happening is smaller than the chances of Kanye West making any sense on Twitter.

Driskel, after flaming out spectacularly in Gainesville, threw for 4,026 yards and 27 TD’s with Louisiana Tech last season. Now, he’s trying to make a better impression on NFL scouts at the Combine in Indianapolis than he did on Florida fans, or anybody with two eyeballs. When speaking with reporters on Thursday, Driskel’s confidence bordered on delusion, as documented by SEC Country.

“When people think about me in my Florida days, they want to think about the bad games,” Driskel told reporters on Thursday afternoon. “That was really highlighted. And there were some games where I didn’t play well.”

“I grew as a quarterback,” he said. “That’s what happens when you get more playing time.”

In other breaking news, the sky is blue.

It’s hard not to grow as a quarterback when you’re playing against C-USA defenses as opposed to SEC ones every day, though the Gators could certainly have used a QB when Will Grier was suspended for using PED’s. Even Gators fans would admit that Driskel would have been better than Treon Harris.

Still, 4,000 yards in 12 games at Florida? That seems like quite a stretch, especially considering that Grier and Harris didn’t combine to pass for even 3,000 yards last season in 14 games. But Driskel certainly seems to think it was possible.

“I believe that I could’ve,” he said. “I don’t think it was a matter of competition. I think it was a matter of me playing well and throwing it to the right guy with certain looks.”

Whatever the opinion on Driskel the Gator was, the opinion of Driskel the Bulldog has allowed him to get back on the radar of NFL scouts and has increased the chances of him being on an NFL roster this summer, something that appeared impossible had he stayed in Gainesville.

“It was just a matter of moving forward and getting in a new situation,” he said. “It turned out to be a really good decision on my part.”
