A North Carolina man was arrested for not returning a VHS copy of “Freddy Got Fingered,” starring Tom Green in 2002. Just think what would have happened if he returned the tape now without rewinding it!

James Meyers was charged with the misdemeanor of not returning rental property this week. Returning the video now would be impossible, as the video store is no longer in business. Meyers was driving his daughter to school when a police officer pulled him over for a taillight that was not working. Once the officer ran Meyers’ license through the system, he learned there was actually a warrant out for his arrest.

“The officer said, ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie “Freddy Got Fingered” and never returned it.’ I thought he was joking,” said Meyers. “For the first time I got put in handcuffs.”

The officer agreed to let Meyers take his daughter to school and then go to work as he promised to turn himself in to sort this all out later in the day. Meyers was thinking the police would have a good laugh over this and let him go, but he was then booked and taken to the magistrate’s office.

“They’re not focusing on the crimes I think they should be focusing on,” said Meyers. “That hour the cops sat out there with me, the hour and a half I was down in the magistrate’s office could have been spent somewhere else.”

This all feels like a story straight out of Seinfeld.
