Former Michigan Wolverines quarterback turned staff member of the football team Denard Robinson joined the program again in 2022 to serve in an off-field role as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel. But on Monday, he engaged in activity that could certainly put his future at the program into question.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, Robinson was involved in a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning, later being arrested on suspicion of OWI (operating while intoxicated).

Chris Page, the strategic communications manager for the Ann Arbor Police Department, added that Robinson’s charges are pending toxicology results.

To most Michigan fans, Robinson is known best for his performance on the football field during his playing days at the program. He started at quarterback for the program from 2010-2012, famously finishing in sixth place in the 2010 Heisman Trophy voting.

This unfortunate news for Michigan continues what has been a troubling trend for Michigan’s staff members this offseason. Greg Scruggs was hired this offseason to serve as the team’s defensive line coach, but resigned just days after being suspended by the program for an OWI arrest back in March.

These off-field controversies obviously aren’t a great start for Sherrone Moore’s first season as head coach of Michigan. And it seems like he will be dealing with Robinson’s arrest similarly to how he dealt with Scruggs’ arrest.

Moore issued a statement about Robinson’s arrest on Monday night, officially announcing that Robinson has been suspended indefinitely by the program.

“We are aware of an incident involving Denard Robinson and have suspended him indefinitely,” Moore said in the statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will have no further comment at this time.”

Only time will tell whether Robinson will end up sticking around at Michigan. But it certainly seems his job is in jeopardy for now.
