Hopefully Astros beat writer Jake Kaplan didn’t have to meet a deadline for the Houston Chronicle right after Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game at Petco Park.
In the top of the eighth inning, Kaplan’s laptop was destroyed, thanks to a foul ball off the bat of Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. I went back and found what appears to be the foul ball that did the damage:
That seemed to be solid contact from Lucroy off a 96-mph fastball from Andrew Miller, and here was the result for Kaplan’s laptop in the press box:

When Jonathan Lucroy fouls one off into the pressbox. Feeling dude’s deadline pain. pic.twitter.com/VHxY212Te1

Say a prayer for @jakemkaplan, whose computer just croaked after getting smashed by a Jonathan Lucroy foul ball that entered the press box. — Stephen J. Nesbitt (@stephenjnesbitt) July 13, 2016
The broken laptop didn’t stop Kaplan from tweeting (from his phone, we assume) when the game ended:
Final: American League 4, National League 2. Will Harris with a huge strikeout to help AL preserve lead. — Jake Kaplan (@jakemkaplan) July 13, 2016
Sorry, Houston Chronicle, but that tweet may have to serve as Kaplan’s game recap for tonight.
