No more Danica Patrick commercials throughout the college football bowl season folks — GoDaddy is out as the title sponsor to the Mobile, Alabama based bowl game. Instead, ubiquitous discount retailer Dollar General will take over for the now-named Dollar General Bowl.
“Having a title sponsor in today’s world is just fantastic,” bowl president Jerry Silverstein said. “There are a lot of bowls out there, and for Mobile to get the recognition from a national sponsor, to want to participate in the event we have here, just leads to the national stage of what we try to produce here in Mobile.”
This bowl has been sponsored by a naming rights partner just three times now, with GMAC signing on from 2000-10 and GoDaddy taking over in 2011 until today, when Dollar General took up its place as a sponsor of the game held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Dec. 23 this year.
As for the game itself, it will still match up the runner-up of the Sun Belt against a representative from the MAC.
As with many title sponsors of today’s college football bowl landscape…let’s just say the jokes have already started coming in.

However, it makes sense for the Alabama-base bowl game to partner up with one of the biggest retailers in the southern part of the United States, one that also has a national presence to it. Heck, the company even sponsors one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR as the lead sponsor of Matt Kenseth’s effort in the Sprint Cup.
