verner

Although sports are basically meaningless in the grand scheme of things, they have the power to create some of the most powerful moments.

Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner was playing Sunday in remembrance of his father, who died on Friday at the age of 61. Late in the second corner, Verner jumped in front of a pass and picked off Russell Wilson. Immediately after getting tackled, Verner broke down in tears as his teammates gathered around him to show support.

The pick also came at a crucial time, as Seattle was driving deep into Tampa Bay territory with a chance to trim the Bucs’ 14-5 lead before halftime. Tampa Bay held on for the 14-5 win after a scoreless second half.

This was Verner’s first interception of the 2016 season, and it came at quite a moment for the seventh-year veteran.
