Like most of us, the Game of Thrones cast isn’t immune from getting a bit tipsy and gabbing about their jobs. The obvious difference between them and us is potential spoiler talk that is of interest to millions of people.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the hit HBO series, spoke to Nick Grimshaw of BBC Radio 1’s The Breakfast Show on Tuesday. She admitted when the cast goes out for drinks, they need to be extra cautious regarding spoilers.

“We go out for drinks and stuff and we just end up talking about the show and then, because we’re a season ahead we have to really watch what we’re saying because you don’t know who’s listening to your conversation.”

Considering how secretive Game of Thrones is about spoilers, Williams’ approach makes perfect sense. Being tightlipped will prevent the Internet from melting down. With the show passing the books in terms of storytelling, keeping spoilers from ending up online is huge. The GoT audience doesn’t know what to expect at this point in the series which is a huge advantage for the creative team. Spoiling the surprise because a cast member had one too many drinks would be a bummer.

As difficult as it might be for cast members to refrain from talking about Thrones while drunk, it’s for the best. The chaos that would ensue from a spoiler leaking via drunken stupor would be palpable. Don’t expect a leak via drinking to happen any time soon.
