Netflix announced a new eight-episode season of “Wet Hot American Summer” after the success of their prequel series last year. Netflix decided to bring the prequel back 14 years after the cult classic movie was released.

This new series, titled “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” will take place ten years after the movie. So let’s set the timeline here. The prequel “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” was the start, then the movie and now the sequel, ten years later.

Details are still scarce but the show will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017 and writers for the movie and the prequel series Michael Showalter and David Wain are coming back to write this new series.

The big issue will be whether or not the cast comes back, or can come back. Even though the original cast came back for the prequel, it can be a logistical nightmare for everyone to be available at the same time given them doing other projects. Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd and Chris Meloni are some very busy people so even if they want to come back and do this series, it’s going to take some scheduling creativity for it to happen.

Netflix has had a bit of a stake in bringing back cult classics from the 90’s and 2000’s after many years. Netflix brought back “Arrested Development” and just recently brought back “Full House” with their updated version “Fuller House.” Now it appears as though “Wet Hot American Summer is up for another season.
