The Candy Crush craze has been burning brightly atop the app store since 2012, but in an unexpected twist, the popular puzzle mobile game will be coming to television.

If you needed further evidence modern day television is running out of ideas, here’s some new ammo. CBS and Candy Crush developer King are working on a game show about the popular mobile game.

“We are huge fans of Candy Crush and, like so many others, we know the ‘rush’ of advancing to the next level of the game,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with Lionsgate and King to adapt one of the world’s most popular and entertaining game franchises for television and make it available to its massive, passionate fan base who can watch and play along at home.”

It makes sense for King to expand into the TV market. While Candy Crush is still immensely popular, it hasn’t been yielding the same insane revenue it did a few years ago. Candy Crush hasn’t been shy about licensing its name out to earn money, so a game show is probably what should be expected at this point. Who doesn’t need a Candy Crush travel mug?

How’s a Candy Crush game going to work? Who cares. The name is the big draw. It will likely be related to candy and crushing. Perhaps obstacle courses? It will be simple, not unique, yet somehow, manage to suck hundreds of hours from viewers. It’s the Candy Crush way.

The show will be executive produced by Fear Factor’s Matt Kunitz and will be distributed by Lionsgate internationally. No premiere date has been officially announced. God help us all.
