Imagine you’re a Chicago Cubs fan and you are at Progressive Field for Game 7 of the World Series. The Cubs are in a tight battle with the Cleveland Indians and it’s coming down to a thrilling conclusion. You’ve waited ## years to finally see your team break a century worth of losing and you have to leave early.
That’s what happened to Buffalo Bills head coach and lifelong Cubs fan Rex Ryan, who was forced to leave during the rain delay after the 9th inning.

After a pic of Ryan in the center field stands was posted on Twitter, Ryan came clean during a Friday press conference and ducked out of work Wednesday and rented a bus with other Bills staffers. Then Ryan revealed some other news that he was rather ashamed to admit.
“I hate to admit it. I hate to admit it,” Ryan said Friday, shaking his head. “We had to [leave]. We had to get back to work. We got to get back to work. We have the rain delay, and I’m like, ‘You gotta be kidding.’ And when you look at it, it’s like, ‘Alright, when’s it gonna pass.’ I’ll be honest, I wanted to stay, but I’m like, ‘If this thing’s in a delay for a couple hours, there’s no way. We gotta get back.’
“The thing that was funny, we leave. We were in the bleachers, and we slide out. I’m like, ‘God, we gotta go.’ As we go, I hear that, ‘Hey, it’s clear that the rain stopped.’ But by then, we’re like, ‘Nah, we’re heading out.’ It was disappointing.”
Oh Rex. I get that you needed to get back to Buffalo to prepare for the Seahawks on Monday night but it’s your hometown team possibly ending a historic drought. Now, I get hindsight is 20/20 and to be honest, no one really knew at the time how long the delay was going to last or that the game would be delayed to the next day. But if I’m Rex, you’re already going to get crap from Bills fans and the media for going to the game anyway, and not working on beating the Seahawks, may as well stay for the whole game and witness potential history.
