The CFL’s Eastern Final is underway in a snowy BMO Field in Toronto, and in the final minute of the first half, it saw one of the strangest plays in some time. Hamilton quarterback Dane Evans (playing after starter Jeremiah Masoli was pulled) completed a pass to Steven Dunbar Jr., but Dunbar fumbled, and Toronto linebacker Henoc Muamba recovered. Muamba then tossed the ball backwards to DB Shaquille Richardson, who raced down the sideline, but Hamilton running back Don Jackson came flying in at him. Richardson tried to avoid Jackson, and that opened up the chance for Evans to knock the ball loose and then dive on it:

That’s a great move by Evans to stay involved in the play after the fumble, and to fight through a block and strip the ball from Richardson when he got a chance. And that may wind up being important; without this fumble, Toronto likely would have added at least another field goal to their four before the half, and possibly even a touchdown. So this was tremendous awareness from Evans to make an impact on the defensive side.
