Houston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi was stretchered off the field with an apparent leg injury to conclude the fifth inning of Monday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

After Kiké Hernández hit a groundball to the right side, Odorizzi started running over to cover first base, when he collapsed to the ground with a non-contact injury before being taken off the field on a stretcher.

There hasn’t yet been an update with specifics on Odorizzi’s injury, but it certainly didn’t look good.

It’s particularly unfortunate considering how great Odorizzi has been this season. The veteran right-hander allowed just three hits and one earned run over five innings on Monday, and he has a terrific 3.13 ERA in 31 2/3 innings pitched.

Odorizzi was selected to the AL All-Star team in 2019, a season in which he put together a 3.51 ERA over 159 innings pitched with the Minnesota Twins.
