As the NFL‘s league-wide deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 53 players approaches, it looks like the New York Jets are parting ways with defensive back Javelin Guidry, who played a key role for the team throughout the 2021-22 season.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets have decided to cut the defensive back even though he played a significant role in the New York defense last season.

“The #Jets have released DB Javelin Guidry, who played all 17 games last year and had three starts,” Rapoport Tweeted. “A claim possibility.”

Guidry signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2020, making the team’s active roster in his first year. He’s been in the league for two seasons, playing both in New York.

In 17 game appearances throughout the 2021 season, Guidry racked up 48 total tackles, 33 solo tackles, and three pass breakups. Throughout his two-year NFL career with the team, Guidry has totaled 70 combined tackles, 48 solo tackles, four forced fumbles, and three pass breakups in 28 game appearances and three starts.

Though Guidry will not be playing for the Jets this season, it’s quite likely he signs with another NFL team before the start of the 2022-23 season due to his extensive in-game experience.
