When star athletes move to the City of Angels, many seamlessly blend in with the celebrity crowd and have notable figures around town clamoring for their time. LeBron James is one of the biggest examples of this.
Dodgers star Mookie Betts has been in town for three seasons but has already found himself buddying up with some big names.
During Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN, Betts was mic’d up in the outfield and asked about some of the famous friends he’s made since moving to Los Angeles, sharing that rapper Nelly is one of his closest buddies and that he comes over to his house at 2 a.m. to hang out and shoot some pool.
“One of my good friends since I came out here has been Nelly,” Betts said. “…Nelly, he comes over the house at 2 o’clock in the morning. We shoot pool. He’s a competitor.”
The obvious question is, why are the two hanging out so late? According to Betts, that’s when Nelly gets started.
“That’s when his day starts,” Betts said. “You stay up and I just take my nap at the field.”

Outside of hanging out with his famous rapper friend, the MLB All-Star says that he and Chris Paul are neighbors and good friends. He’s yet to challenge the NBA star to a game of one-on-one.
“He’s 38, something like that?” Betts said. “I don’t think that really matters but maybe I could run around him a bit. Probably not.”
