While the eyes of the college football world will be on Lawrence, Kansas this weekend when College GameDay visits the 5-0 Jayhawks, there’s also another “basketball school” with a 5-0 record on the football season, the Syracuse Orange.
Syracuse has surprised many by posting five wins to start the season, including victories over Purdue, Virginia, and Louisville. They’ve worked their way into the polls and are currently No. 22 with a big showdown against No. 14 NC State this weekend.
There are quite a few reasons why Syracuse has been successful, including the improved play of quarterback Garrett Shrader. However, their biggest offensive weapon has to be running back Sean Tucker, who came into the year as a sleeper Heisman candidate.
While Tucker’s stats haven’t been revelatory so far this season, he broke out for 232 rushing yards and three scores last weekend against Wagner. And now Robert Griffin III has dubbed Tucker as his No. 1 “unsung hero” in the 2022 college football season so far.

“Hold your oranges, people. Syracuse is 5-0. Running back Sean Tucker has defenders out there asking, ‘which one of y’all are gonna tackle him.'”
We’re guessing that Tucker is “pleased” with the news.
Last year, Tucker established himself on the national scene after rushing for 1,496 yards and garnering 14 total touchdowns.
Also on RGIII’s unsung hero list were Arizona QB Jayden De Laura, Northern Illinois RB Harrison Waylee, Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes, and Kent State WR Dante Cephas.
