Last NFL season, Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams had one of the team’s most dominant rushing seasons in recent history, becoming the first player in a decade to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season and setting a new single-season franchise record with 17 rushing touchdowns. But it appears that the Lions didn’t appreciate him enough to give him a competitive contract offer to keep him in Detroit.

Jamaal Williams ultimately signed with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent. And in his introductory press conference with the team, he expressed that he loved his time in Detroit, but claims that the Lions gave him a “disrespectful” contract offer.

“The offer they gave me, I felt like was disrespectful and showing that they really didn’t want me to be there like that,” Williams said on Friday afternoon, according to MLive.com.

It’s safe to say that Williams will remember his time in Detroit fondly – his teammates, his coaches, and the fans. But it still stings that he couldn’t come to a deal to stay with the team.

“It’s all love (for Detroit),” Williams told reporters. “Like, I know my teammates, everybody there at the Detroit Lions got love for me and all that. But, at the same time, we couldn’t come to terms and — it’s just funny, that’s all.”
