UConn Huskies fans had plenty to celebrate after their basketball team won the NCAA Tournament April 4.
Some fans, however, took the celebration much too far — and now it will cost them. A university spokesperson announced Friday that students have been expelled for acts of vandalism and other bad behavior following the Huskies’ 76-59 win over San Diego State.
“The cases are at various stages,” university spokesperson Stephanie Reitz said (via the Hartford Courant). “Although we can’t address individual students’ outcomes, we can say that some reviews have concluded with expulsions.”
More than a dozen UConn students were arrested for incidents of vandalism, which included damaging a police vehicle, smashing windows, pulling down light posts and flipping a van. Some of the charges included rioting.

Sixteen people were taken to the hospital for various injuries.
Reitz said investigations continue for other students who were arrested, and the university expects to release further details on the expulsions this summer. Although students are allowed to appeal the decisions, some have already done so and the expulsions were upheld.
The championship marked UConn’s fifth NCAA title in the past 24 years.
