Pittsburgh Pirates great Andrew McCutchen has achieved a lot in his illustrious career. But on Sunday, Cutch hit a milestone.

McCutchen drilled his 300th career home run! The Pirates great clubbed the homer against the Philadelphia Phillies, who fittingly are one of the few teams McCutchen has played for that weren’t the Buccos.

McCutchen’s home run came with the game well in hand. Pittsburgh held a 7-2 edge over the Phillies when Cutch came to the plate. With a man on, McCutchen clobbered the home run to extend the lead to 9-2.

McCutchen became the 160th player in MLB history to record at least 300 career home runs. Until his blast on Sunday, he was tied with former Angels great Tim Salmon with 299. When he hits his 301st career home run, he’ll be tied with Carlos Santana and the great Rogers Hornsby.

Given that Cutch is on the downside of his career, this will likely be one of his last big milestones. So to do it with the Pirates is pretty awesome. The only way this could have gone better is if it was at PNC Park and not Citizens Bank. Alas, that’s the way it goes sometimes.

These Pirates have been hungry and are playing extremely well. Could they crash the party in October? It’s a long season, but stranger things have indeed happened.
