As the Las Vegas Raiders appear to be ready to take the interim tag off of Antonio Pierce, making him the team’s new head coach, we’ve already started to hear rumblings of coaches Pierce may be looking to add to his staff.
One such name is former longtime Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news Friday afternoon.
As Antonio Pierce hires staff in Las Vegas, one name expected to be there is former #Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
Pierce brought in Lewis — who coached him in Washington — to help him after getting the interim job. Now Lewis is expected to be on staff in a more formal capacity.

“As Antonio Pierce hires staff in Las Vegas, one name expected to be there is former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. Pierce brought in Lewis — who coached him in Washington — to help him after getting the interim job. Now Lewis is expected to be on staff in a more formal capacity,” Pelissero said.
Lewis had been working as a special advisor for the Arizona State Sun Devils, a position he was hired to in 2019, but he spent the 2020 season as the team’s co-defensive coordinator alongside Pierce under head coach Herm Edwards. It was Lewis’ first foray back into college football since 1991, his final season as linebackers coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers. After the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers hired him to the same role where he remained until the Baltimore Ravens made him the franchise’s first defensive coordinator, a job he held from 1996-01. After a one-year stop in Washington, he was named head coach of the Bengals where he remained from 2003-18.
